The electricity generation and distribution industry is critical to Dak Lak province's industrial development. These industries have contributed to a 29.46 percent increase in Dak Lak's industrial production index in the first eight months of the year compared to the same period in 2020.
Mr. Luu Van Khoi, Director of the Dak Lak Department of Industry and Trade, stated that in recent times, the province's industrial production and processing factories have maintained stable operations in the direction of ensuring both production and assurance of safety in epidemic prevention. The majority of industrial product output increased in comparison to the previous month and the same period in 2020.
However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, Directive 16 was applied to Ho Chi Minh City. Buon Ma Thuot, Cu Kuin district, and Directive No. 15 with the remaining localities in epidemic prevention and control, reducing customer demand, and the import of production materials was limited, so some factories reduced capacity, such as: beer of all kinds, steel rolling...., causing output to decrease compared to the previous month; sugar and tapioca starch factories temporarily closed.
According to Mr. Khoi, a number of construction projects in the province have temporarily halted construction due to safety concerns in anti-epidemic measures, and the need for people to begin construction of new works has decreased, causing the mining sector's output to fall compared to the previous month and the same period in 2020. Non-essential production and business activities in the province and region are temporarily halted, resulting in a decrease in line load, causing power plants in the area to shut down. The province is not operating at full capacity; electricity production has decreased since the same period in 2020.
As a result, the industrial production index in August 2021 is expected to fall 2.86 percent from the same period in 2020 while increasing 11.06 percent from July 2021.
The province currently has 159 investment projects and registered investment in 8 industrial clusters, according to the Dak Lak Department of Industry and Trade. The Central Highlands Wind Power Farm Project - phase 1 with a capacity of 28.8MW has begun commercial power generation in the wind power sector. The Ea Nam Wind Power Plant project, which has a capacity of 400MW, has completed 5 wind turbines, a 500kV transformer station, and a 500kV transmission line connecting the project. In addition, the province has 7 wind power projects with a total capacity of 342MW that have supplemented the power development planning, of which 6 projects with a total capacity of 285MW have been approved by the Provincial People's Committee and 41 projects with a total capacity of 9,040 MW are submitting to the National Power Development Plan.
The solar power sector currently has ten projects with a total capacity of 960 MWp that have been completed and put into service for commercial power generation, helping to increase capacity on the national grid. Furthermore, three projects with a total capacity of 480 MWp have been approved by the Prime Minister for inclusion in the Power Development Plan, while 22 solar power projects with a total capacity of 8,768 MWp have been approved by the Provincial People's Committee and submitted to the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to supplement national electricity development. There are 5,367 rooftop solar power projects in the province that have generated commercial electricity with a total capacity of 648.9 MWp as of December 31, 2020.
According to the head of the Dak Lak Department of Industry and Trade, in the first eight months of 2021, the electricity and water production and distribution industry will play an important role in the province's industrial development; by the end of 2020, with the rapid and large-scale development of rooftop solar power projects with a capacity of 650MWp and the Xuan Thien Ea Sup solar power project cluster, Electricity production was estimated to be 3,287.4 million kWh in August, a 76.8 percent increase over the same period in 2020. As a result, it helped to boost the industrial production index in the first eight months of the year. For the same time period in 2020, the figure will be 29.46 percent.
